How to use drones in advertising?

Dear friends,

Although only five months young, dronologista blog has grown and needs a new attire.

As of 1st of September, dronologista.com moves to a new hosting, new address and slightly changes the appearance . Content will remain the same, and dronologista will continue to provide information about non-military drones only.

A couple of days ago, Internet was buzzing about Philadelphia company intending to take advertising to a new level. DroneCast is offering aerial advertising platform, in essence a flying banner, to anyone interested. Although this idea is not new, this is probably the first time someone attached it to a UAV. However, there are other and more interesting ways of using drones for transmitting a message to intended audience.

Let’s see what options are available for that:

1. Aerial banner

As mentioned above, only innovative thing about it, is the fact that a banner is attached to a drone instead of an airplane. There is already a company offering this service, and it is a matter of time before we will see more of it at festivals, games or any place where large audience is gathering. How it looks like you can check in the PCMag video below:

 2. Projector drone

Now this is something interesting. Imagine a beamer attached to a multirotor drone, flying near the blind wall and projecting advertising video for your favorite brand of whatever. There are issues to be solved (e.g. power consumption), but it looks promising, and there are people experimenting with this, as you can see on a video below:

The next expected upgrade of this invention is a holographic projector drone 😉

3. Swarm skywriting

Perhaps the most interesting of all is what I call swarm skywriting. Using multitude of drones equipped with lights to convey a message over the night sky. One of the first (if not the first) cases of swarm skywriting was during the Earth Day 2013, when tens of small quadcopters created a Star Fleet logo over the London, as a part of Star Trek Into Darkness promo event.

Dronologista foresees that we will soon witness Coca-Cola, Toyota or Samsung signs flying over the Super Bowl  stadium, as if we don’t have enough commercials already.
